Kurzbeschreibung – Short introduction

DEUTSCH
Yaron Shamir, der sich 1998 entschied, seine Tätigkeit des Officers im israelischen Militärdienst aufzugeben, nach Berlin zu ziehen und Tänzer und Choreograph zu werden, thematisiert in seiner Produktion Holy Cows eigene Erfahrungen der Grenzüberschreitung, des Neuanfangs auf komplett neuem Terrain mit neuen Tabus und Grenzen. Als zentrales Symbol wählt er die Heilige Kuh: Sie steht dafür, was jedem Menschen wichtig und heilig ist. Diese Werte erfahren beim Ankommen in fremden Ländern Erschütterungen, begegnen einheimischen Wertvorstellungen. Das ist für keine der beiden Seiten eine einfache Aufgabe. Sobald das eigene Territorium in Gefahr gewähnt wird formen sich Aggressionen und Ängste. Eine Choreografie der Abgrenzung, Anziehung und Grenzüberschreitung mit dem Tänzer Tobias Weikamp.

Ich entkleide mich des Vertrauens, das mir innewohnte, und wandere zu einem Platz, wo die Ungewissheit vorherrscht. In einer neuen Wirklichkeit beginnt eine neue Herausforderung für mich. ENGLISH
Yaron Shamir decided in 1998 to leave behind his 4 years of military service as an officer and to start an artistic career as a dancer and choreographer (since 2009). In his production Holy Cows, he is reflecting his own experiences of crossing borders, of starting a new life on complete new ground with new taboos and boundaries. As a central symbol, he chooses the Holy Cow, which stands for everything that is important and “holy” to a person. At arrival in foreign countries, these values are shaken and meet the values of the inhabitants. For none of both sides, this is easy: As soon as the own territory is in danger, aggressions and fears are rising. A choreography of demarcation, attraction and crossing borders with the dancer Tobias Weikamp.

“I overlook the boundaries of the familiar and choose to stride behind the lines of safety into an unrecognized world. I’m peeling away the confidence that has rooted in me and immigrate to a place where the uncertainty dominates.

Teil 1: “Arriving”
Der erste Teil von Holy Cows beschreibt den Entschluss, die alte Heimat zu verlassen und sich in das Unbekannte zu stürzen. Er beschreibt das Ankommen und die existenzielle Konfrontation des Einwanderers mit der neuen Umgebung. Zuerst noch ängstlich, tastend und nackt nähert sich dieser der neuen “Heimat” und prüft das unbekannte Terrain. Nun geht es darum, von beiden Seiten her Vertrauen aufzubauen und die “Codes” und Bräuche der neuen Umgebung zu entschlüsseln. Der erste Teil wird getanzt von Tobias Weikamp.

ENGLISH:
Holy Cows part 1, “Arriving” describes the decision, to leave the old homeplace and to jump into the unknown. It describes the arrival and the existencial confrontation of the immigrant with the new surroundings. First still very fearful, slowly approaching and naked, the person comes nearer its “new home” and examines the unknown territory. Now, the important thing is to establish trust on both sides and to solve the “codes” of the new place. The dancer Tobias Weikamp is dancing part1.

PART 2 “Staying”

Teil 2: “Staying”
In seiner Produktion Holy Cows verarbeitet der Choreograph Yaron Shamir eigene Erfahrungen von Grenzüberschreitungen und von einem Neuanfang in einem komplett fremden Land. Am neuen Ort prallen Werte und Tabus von Ankommenden und Einheimischen aufeinander und man muss sich mit ihnen auseinandersetzen. Der Begriff ‘Heimat’ erfährt eine neue Deutung,
Holy Cows Part. 2 beschreibt den Prozess, sich in der neuen Heimat niederzulassen, anzukommen, den Aufenthalt in der Fremde nicht mehr nur als temporär, sondern das Umfeld als ‘das Eigene’ zu begreifen. Der Ankommende beeinflusst den Ort gleichermaßen wie auch dieser ihn beeinflusst, man beginnt, Netzwerke aufzubauen und “Wurzeln zu schlagen”.
Holy Cows Part. 2 wird getanzt von Nora Vladiguerov.

Part 2: “Staying”

In his Production „Holy Cows“, the choreographer Yaron Shamir is reflecting his own experiences of crossing borders and of starting a new life on complete new ground. In the new place, values and taboos of inhabitants and immigrants are clashing and have to be discussed. The term ‘home’ is getting a new meaning.
Holy Cows Part 2 describes the process of settling down in the new home, of arriving and of understanding the stay as not temporary any more, but of a more steady nature.
The arriving person makes the place her own and is influencing the place as much as the surroundings influence her. Networks are established and the incoming one becomes slowly more rooted. Holy Cows Part 2 is danced by Nora Vladiguerov.

PART 3 “Shifting”

Teil 3: “Shifting”
Je länger der Aufenthalt im nicht mehr ganz so Neuen dauert, desto gewohnter wird die Umgebung, der harte Kampf um die neue Heimat vorbei. Dennoch mehren sich Zweifel und mixen sich ambivalente Gefühle ins Dasein. Ist das wirklich der beste Ort für mich? Soll ich wirklich hier bleiben, noch tiefere Wurzeln schlagen oder mich doch weiterorientieren oder sogar zurückkehren? Diese wechselnden Gefühle und Zustände symbolisieren im 3. Teil 2 Tänzer, Tobias Weikamp und Nora Vladiguerov.

part 3: “Shifting”
The longer the stay takes, the more normal and even more “boring” the place becomes. The hard battle of conquering the new home is in the past. But still, doubts are rising and ambivalent feelings start to come up: Is that really the best place for me? Shall I stay here, become even more comfortable and rooted or shall I orientate myself in a different direction, move on or even move back? These changing feelings and negotiations with the own self are symbolised by 2 dancers, Tobias Weikamp und Nora Vladiguerov.
